Community

At Wild Acorns Nature Preschool, community isn’t just a word- it’s the heart of everything we do. From the very first day, we create opportunities for children, families, and teachers to grow together, forming connections that extend far beyond the classroom.

Our year begins with the Popsicle Playdate, where students and their visit theparents school before the official first day. Together they create snack mats decorated with family photos, providing a comforting reminder of home during snack time. The children also craft “magic” sun color-changing bracelets, each bead representing a family member and their ages. These small but meaningful activities help children feel grounded, connected, and excited to start their preschool journey.

Throughout the school year we host three special evening events designed for the whole family:

-Sausages and S’mores Potluck- A cozy fall evening filled with delicious food, laughter, and connection at our school fire pit. The children sing a sweet song, “This is my School Family.”

-St. Martinmas Lantern Festival- A magical night where handmade lanterns light our way under the forest canopy in a celebration of kindness and being a light in a community.

-Jingle Jams Holiday Musical- A joyful event where children perform a complete musical storyline, with highlighted speaking parts.

In addition to these special community-building evenings, we also celebrate as a whole school during daytime holiday celebrations including Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day (complete with a visiting ballerina “fairy princess” that performs a beautiful dance and teaches the children a simple one), and Easter (where we hold the baby chicks we have hatched for the first time).

Our community extends beyond the classroom with all-school field trips, where families are invited to join in the fun. From exploring a pumpkin patch in the fall, to picking sweet berries at a strawberry patch, to discovering the animal barn via hay ride at a tree farm, these outing are cherished memories in the making.

This year we are excited to introduce a new tradition: the May Day Flower Festival, complete with a maypole dance and floral celebrations to welcome spring.

With around a dozen students, Wild Acorns is more than a preschool- it’s a family. Each child, parent, and teacher contributes to the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes our little school feel like home. Together we nurture not only young minds but also lasting friendships and a true sense of belonging.
